Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Masroor Abbas Ansari made the remarks at a large mourning gathering attended by thousands of devotees of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
"The movement of Imam Hussein (AS) taught humanity that in defending truth, justice, and divine values, one must never surrender to oppression, cruelty, and tyranny," Ansari said, emphasizing the universal message of Ashura.
He described the Ashura uprising as an eternal school of thought and a source of inspiration for all free people of the world. "Through his conscious and divine uprising, Imam Hussein (AS) demonstrated that safeguarding truth, justice, and human dignity is a divine and human duty—even if it requires sacrificing one's life and most beloved assets," he added. "With his sacrifice and selflessness, he charted the path of dignity, freedom, and resistance for all generations."
'Silence in the Face of Injustice Is Complicity'
Addressing the social responsibility of Muslims, the scholar stressed that reforming society is a collective duty, and no individual should remain indifferent to injustice, corruption, discrimination, or social ills.
"When a person remains silent in the face of the spread of oppression and wrongdoing, they become, in a sense, complicit in its continuation," Ansari stated.
He added that silence in the face of injustice can at times amount to siding with the oppressors. "Every believer has a duty to defend the truth with wisdom, insight, morality, and a sense of responsibility, and to stand against falsehood and injustice," he said. "A society in which the culture of enjoining good, forbidding evil, and defending the oppressed is alive will never surrender to tyranny and deviation."
Call to the Youth
In another part of his address, Ansari called on young people to take inspiration from the life and teachings of Imam Hussein (AS).
"The younger generation must internalize the culture of Ashura in their personal and social lives," he said. "By strengthening the spirit of faith, brotherhood, empathy, unity, and responsibility, they must always be defenders of truth, justice, honesty, and Islamic values."
The spiritual ceremony concluded with prayers for the honor and dignity of the Islamic world, the security and progress of the region, the unity of the Muslim Ummah, the hastening of the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (may God hasten his advent), and the well-being and success of all believers.
